Okay, So i know that Easter is still a couple of weeks away, but I could not resist coloring some Easter eggs last week while I was on Spring Break. Blame it on spring fever? So last year I wanted to try making glitter eggs so badly but I thought it would be complicated so I didn’t do it. This time around I had to, and considering I am loving everything polka-dots this season I wanted to try that too. Guess what? It was SO easy!
Here is what I used:
White craft paint
Mechanical pencil with unused eraser
Glitter (Got a 12 pack at Wal-Mart for under $7 last Christmas!)
So I just made the dye based on the directions on the food coloring box, and once I had the eggs the color I liked, I took them out and let them dry in the carton for a few minutes. Then came the fun part!
I dipped the pencil eraser into the white paint and it made perfect polka dots on my egg. The hardest part was not messing up the polka dots I had already made while turning the egg in my hand! After this I just went crazy with the tip of the pencil making zig-zags and triangles because it was so easy and fun.
I used a glue stick to cover my purple egg and poured glitter over it. I had to use a lot of the stick and I think it would have been easier had I had mod podge or something stronger but it worked fine. Then I decided to try making polka dots with the white paint and then pouring glitter over them. It worked like a charm. So I said goodbye to the glue stick and just used the paint to make glittery patterns on a few of them.
And Voila! The only thing I am sad about is that since these are hard-boiled eggs I couldn’t display them for more than about half an hour. At least I had a good consolation prize: Avocado Deviled Eggs!
