Football Truffles

College football season starts today. You know what this means don’t you? A very happy and excited husband. I love to have something to look forward too. I am always counting down to something, even if its just the next episode of American Idol. So, I love it when he looks forward to something, and he has been reminding me about this day for about a month.

Of course we have a score of “game time foods” that are fun to make and eat, but still cheaper than getting wings, pizza etc. For dinner tonight we are having brats. I wanted to make something special and fun for dessert as well, and my mind immediately went to oreo truffles.

Oreo truffles have been floating around the internet forever, so i’m sure you have all seen them. If you haven’t made them yet, make them today! I promise you won’t regret it. I love them because they can be made with almost any cookie, be almost any color, and shaped a ton of different ways. For all these reasons, plus the fact that they are amazing, makes them a go to dessert for me.

Here’s my recipe:

8 oz. cream cheese
1 package oreos
white chocolate bark
orange food coloring

Set out cream cheese until it is room temperature. Blend cookies in a food processor or blender until they are finely ground. Add cookie crumbs and cream cheese in a bowl and mix them together with a large fork. (You can also do this part with your hands if you want it to go faster). Basically, think of this as a big oreo cheese ball. Mix until mixture is one big mass with no extra crumbs hangin around.

Next, take out a cookie sheet and cover it with wax paper. Take off a small ball of your mixture and mold it into a football shape, then place it on your wax paper. After you have done this for all of your mixture place your cookie sheet in the fridge so that the shapes will harden a bit.

Next, follow package directions and melt your chocolate for dipping. Before you color your chocolate orange,  reserve a small portion of the plain white for the laces. Next, dip your chocolates and place them back on wax paper.

Take your remaining white chocolate into a small plastic bag and pipe it onto your footballs as laces. Put in the fridge to set.

Enjoy!
