I have to say, I am so stinkin proud of myself about this. Why you ask? Because I am NOT an artist. I have a friend who had made this canvas set and instagrammed it, and I told her that I wanted her to make some for my kids bathroom. So we went to Micheal’s and bought all the stuff and got back home and I was just waiting for her to start, when she sat me down at the table and started directing me. I was afraid. She told me that I would love them more if I did them myself, and that they didn’t have to be perfect, and that they were really easy. Well guess what… she was right!!
So.. even if you aren’t an artist, you can paint these! I will walk you through it.
Here is a picture of the paint colors I used, in case you want the exact same colors…
Okay let’s get started. The key is take it slow. Evaluate what you are drawing and paint it one small step at a time. Here is a mid way shot and an up-close finished shot of my anchor.
See all the imperfections? It totally adds character. Plus, once they are hung you don’t even notice. Next, the sailboats….
Just make sure that you vary your boats in size, so some boats appear close while others appear further away.
For the ocean, all you do is paint strait lines, using your ruler, about a 1/4 inch apart, like so.
And last but not least, the adorable crabs.
Here is a picture of the whole group after I finished them. Of course I wanted the colors balanced, but I also like this arrangement because anchors go below ships and crabs are under the water :).
Here is one final distance shot of their place in the bathroom, sorry the lighting is terrible.
Turned out pretty cute don’t you think?? Moral of the story… anyone can paint! I can’t wait to put some other canvases to use…
