Beat the heat with this sweet, refreshing drink.
I don’t know how things are where you live but it is getting HOT around here! Every year I can’t wait for summer to come and every year about mid-July I always say it’s too hot; you think I would be used to it by now. This is the first year that I don’t have a baby in the summer and we have been getting out and enjoying the warm days a lot. Because we’re out in 100°+ weather every day I’m teaching my boys that water is the best way to stay hydrated.
Water is definitely the best way to keep yourself safe from dehydration but it’s also so…boring. There’s only so much water I can drink before I’m ready for something different. I’ve been seeing on Pinterest and Facebook a trend of agua fresca recipes and they all look so good. Agua Fresca, or Fresh Water, is a mix of fruits and water (and a little sweetener). They are perfect for staying hydrated but they have a little more zing vs. plain water.
For my first attempt I wanted to try a mix of my two favorite fruits, strawberries and kiwis. It turned out SO good and it made a whole pitcher! I had enough to keep me cool for a few days; even with the kids having a cup or two. The nice thing with agua frescas is the taste and textures aren’t too over powering. You’re still drinking water just with a hint of sweetness. Plus when you use honey for your sweetener it still keeps the drinks in the healthy category.
Strawberry Kiwi Agua Fresca
- 2 cups strawberries
- 2 kiwis peeled
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 4 cups water
Add all ingredients into blender and blend for 15 seconds.
Serve over ice.
