Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and my social media feeds are starting to fill with pinks and reds, the classic signature colors of the holiday. In the past, just like other special occasions and holidays that come once a year (New Years, St. Patrick’s Day, etc.) Valentine’s Day would have called for a new outfit that would most likely be worn once and then forgotten. But with my New Year’s resolution to both make use of what I have already and to buy pieces that are more versatile and reusable, this year my Valentine’s Day date-night look is a little less pink and a lot more me (think lace and black). Of course there is nothing wrong with getting decked out in pinks or pastels or hearts if that is something that you will wear more than once in 2015, but if you are like me and not so into the super girly or intensely bright colors, then this post should be right up your alley!
I should start by saying that there is absolutely nothing wrong with going the classic route for Vday; I love seeing all those precious dainty dresses and heart-emblazoned pieces! And while I can totally appreciate those looks, I have to be honest with myself when it comes to buying them. The fact is that my daily-wear tends to be more in the black/white/gray/neutrals zone and I’m a lot more likely to wear something that is solid vs. patterned with hearts….I can’t tell you how many Valentine’s day looks have been sold on my ebay account….too many! So this year I decided to go with something that still felt romantic and a little out of norm but that I knew I could wear again and again. This lace overlay dress from Forever 21 has the most beautiful details and although the black color may not be considered an especially Valentine’s-esque hue, I think that the feel of the dress and lacy details are still really romantic and beautiful, perfect for your V-day date night (and for under $30 how could you say no?). To keep in line with the boho-romance feel, I chose a fedora I already had in my closet (which you can get from Target for only $16 such a steal) and paired the look with some booties (in case you don’t have a pair I’ve linked the ones I’m wearing as well as a super-steal pair that are under $30). I wanted to keep my accessories simple because I think that lace doesn’t need much but I had this gorgeous House of Harlow bangle that I pushed up to my forearm to wear as an arm cuff and I really love the little extra it gives the look! Add some pretty pink lipgloss and gentle curls, and you have a beautiful and feminine Valentine’s Day look that won’t break the bank (I spent a total of $27.99 because everything else was already in my closet). Plus I’m super excited to style this dress a number of different ways, totally not how I normally feel about the looks I get specific just for V day. So what do you guys think? Would you try something a little less ordinary and off the beaten path? Or is black just too much of a no-no for your Valentine’s date night?
