Ombre Heart Stitch Pillow

Hello Pretty Providence readers! I am Bethany from Whistle and Ivy. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I have been thinking of cute ways to decorate. I don’t really do much for Valentine’s Day, honestly, and I don’t really care to. But throw pillows have always been my favorite way to add a pop of festivity to a room for any occasion, and this cute crochet ombre heart stitch pillow is a bright, fun Valentine’s addition to my front room.

This pattern is actually a slipcover. I don’t know if you have shopped for pillow forms lately, but they ain’t cheap. So instead of sewing the pillow permanently around the form, I made it into a slip cover. That way, you can use your pillow form with different covers, without having to by one for each pillow you make.

Construction:
Stitch the heart to the front piece of the pillow using a darning needle. You can use contrasting yarn for detail, or gray yarn to hide the stitches. I like the look of the red stitches.

Since this is a pillow slipcover, the back is made of two pieces so you can remove it from the pillow form and change it out with other styles easily.

Lay the front down, face up. Next, lay back piece #2 down, lining it up with the bottom.

Sew the pillow together by stitching around the whole outside. Be sure you catch all three layers on the side where they meet. I used a simple running stitch, but you prefer not to have your stitches showing afterward, you can choose a more discreet stitch.

Turn it inside out, and sew your buttons in place. If the holes on your buttons are large enough, you can use your darning needle and a length of yarn. Once the buttons are in place, you can place your pillow inside, and add a fun pop of Valentine color to your room!
