This DIY is almost like a science experiment that's so fun you forget you're doing science! I created this necklace out of nothing but Borax, a chain, metal wire, and a pipe cleaner. It is really simple but has such a cool expensive look. Who doesn't love a little glam?
I am visiting from my blog Practical and Pretty today and if you like this tutorial I hope you'll check out my blog as well!
How to make your Borax Crystal
The first thing you will need to do is grow your crystal. This was so fun and I think you'll enjoy it too!
Boil some water in a heat resistant cup. I used this measuring cup.
As that is boiling, form a loose ball with your pipe cleaner. I wanted mine pretty tight. You can make a longer crystal by forming more of a tube shape if you'd like too!
Next you will tie your pipe cleaner form onto a stick. I used another pipe cleaner because it was available but I'd probably suggest something more like a skewer if you have one!
Once your water has started boiling, turn the heat off and start adding Borax to the water. Add enough that it stop dissolving and you can see the water is no longer clear. Now you will dip your form in the water!
Make sure to keep your experiment covered as you let it sit overnight!
How to Create your Borax Crystal Necklace
Now your crystal should be formed! Take some gold jewelry wire and create a form around the crystal. I used a lot of wire because I really liked the look of the gold on the white.
Then you will take a jump ring and attach it around part of your wire and whichever chain you would like. I really love all the jewelry findings at Michaels!
Now you can wear your glam crystal in style! I am so in love with the look of this thing and I love it even more that I made it myself!
