When you first move into a new home, or even just want to upgrade your window treatments, buying curtain rods can be a headache. I remember feeling frustrated at how expensive it was even to buy cheap curtain rods for every window in my house. I should have done DIY curtain rods! At first, I decided to buy the cheapest curtain rods I could find, and guess what? They looked BAD after a while. They were too lightweight to hold up my beautiful velvet curtains, they bowed and eventually broke.
I eventually replaced them with good-quality curtain rods, one by one. However, I kinda wish I would have just done some DIY curtain rods in the first place. There are some incredible tutorials out there, where you can make curtain rods that are sturdy enough to last the test of time - and customize them to your personal style!

Hello,
Do you think that curtains holdbacks can be used to hang a scarf curtain from? instead of a rod.
Or are they too small for this purpose?
Thank you!

I love tips like this !!! Thanks! To get wooden pole rods for one home I used a tip that said to buy wooden closet pole - which is sold by the foot - an inexpensive substitute for ones sold by window covering companies. Boy, was it a lot cheaper. I cut out the brackets on my band saw from scraps of wood, more savings!!!

You can also cut rebar to fit, and the fancy ends . Then spray paint it to match. It's alot stabiler then the other suggestions for spanning long stretches.

Funny. I bought a basic white rod at Target an the price was similar at Hobby Lobby. The comparison is as you’d expect. Cheaper price = cheaper goods. Glad you were happy and found the brushed nickel to be equivalent.

I meant to say it was cheaper at Hobby Lobby and it showed. That didn’t come across when I reread my post, sorry.

Just remember that the cheaper the rod, the thinner the rod. The weight of your drape could cause sagging or bending.

I wish we had a hobby lobby here. I've done the same as the last commenter, I got conduit from Lowes for $3 and added fancy ends and then spray painted.
