I love this idea for getting your home organized and clutter free! It can be so hard to keep a house clutter free with kids, but it is so worth the effort!
I am a neat freak by nature and I like everything to have its own specific place! I typically keep my house pretty clean and tidy, and never would have imagined myself to be a person who accumulates a lot of junk! Well, about five years into our marriage I was looking for something one day and was digging around in cupboards and drawers and found myself thinking, "what is all this crap?!" The more I looked for this specific item the more I began to notice all the junk we had accumulated in our lives together up to that point. How had this happened?! Well, my OCD went into complete overdrive and I decided I would not rest until I had cleaned out, de-cluttered and organized every drawer, closet and cupboard in our house!
I quickly realized that this was quite an undertaking and I might need some rest in between spaces, haha. As the daunting realization of exactly what I had bitten off settled over me, I decided to do what I do best and make a check list of all the different areas that I wanted to tackle. It was a long list! It took my husband and I several months of consistent effort, but we succeeded in cleaning out and de-junking every single space in our house, big or small! We filled up so many trash bags of stuff we didn't need or use, we were shocked! I have no idea where it was all hiding.
It felt so good! I won't lie, I actually shed tears when I checked off the last box on my list! In my defense though, I was very pregnant at the time!
Coincidentally, a few months later we unexpectedly decided to pack up and move. I cannot even tell you how much easier this process was having just decluttered our whole house! It was our easiest move thus far in our marriage. Even with more space and more people to move then we ever had before!
Clutter Free Home Checklist
Since that time, I've made an effort to go through each space in our house once a year to clean it out and re-organize! Staying on top of things makes it so that our clutter doesn't get out of control, and the things that we do have and use are easier to access and way more functional! I made myself this "Clutter Free Home Checklist" to help me keep track of which spaces I want to tackle next, and I thought I would share it with you today! You can download your own copy here.
Typically I find that as soon as I have finished my entire list completely, it is time to start over! Seriously though, de-cluttering has become so therapeutic for me. I know everyone in our family is happier when we don't have stuff we don't need piling up. It feels so good to have a home that is clean and functional.
If you want to get a handle on your current home organization I would highly recommend utilizing this checklist!
Good luck everyone, you've got this!
