the perfect date menu: create a menu for your significant other, listing a few of their favorite restaurants, activities, etc.

Last year on my birthday, my husband planned the perfect date for me. I've been wanting to share about it ever since so with Valentine's Day approaching I decided it would be perfect this week. What he did was, a week or so leading up to my birthday he started to fish. "Hey... so what are some of your favorite places around here for dessert? I need a few ideas..." this is normal behavior for him around an occasion like this so I happily obliged. He was taking notes.

So, when I woke up on my birthday he presented me with "The Perfect Date Menu" - it looked just like a restaurant menu with courses: afternoon activities, restaurants for dinner, date night activities and then dessert options. He had listed four of my favorite things to do on the activities - bowling, see a movie, go to a local concert, etc. - you get the idea.

For the record, we ended up eating at this amazing native american restaurant called Black Sheep Cafe, then bowling, then grabbing a slice of cake from The Chocolate and heading home to watch our favorite TV shows! It was the perfect date.

There were two reasons I loved it. The first is that, yes, I talk a lot so he could have taken a tip from something I said in passing or gone with a "tried and true" favorite dinner place for our date - but instead he let me think about where I might want to go (which included places he'd never heard me speak of!) then on top of it he made reservations at the places that needed them just in case, so I got to choose the day of what I was in the mood for. (Then we cancelled the extraneous reservations.)

Sure, I usually get to pick where I want to go and where I want to eat on my birthday, but the way it was thoughtfully planned out and a lot of the work was done for me made it way more fun. I loved it, so I thought I should share the idea with you guys in case you'd like to do it sometime too!

This is so sweet! I'm going to have to take your idea for our next date-night-out. I love that you don't have to make up your mind until the night of. Intentional spontaneous.
