So.. this dessert is divine. I first was introduced to it when my amazing sister in law Alex made it for a group dinner one night like 7 years ago. Bryce was totally raving about it, so of course I had to have the recipe. Plus, it was freaking delicious. Anytime Bryce likes something that is chocolate based (it's pretty rare) I am stoked so this was immediately a win-win.
There are two reasons I don't make it very often, the first being that I am pretty lazy and this is a multiple step deal. The second being that I cannot contain myself from eating the whole pan and I try to keep that fat girl inside me if at all possible. After making it Sunday I decided it was totally worth it despite those two reasons. I checked with Alex and she said it was okay if I shared the recipe with all my cyber friends, so it's your lucky day!
Heavenly Chocolate Torte:
First Layer:
1 ½ cups flour
1 ½ sticks margarine (I use butter)
1 cup chopped pecans
Work ingredients together and press into a 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden. Cool completely.
Second Layer:
12oz cream cheese softened
1 ½ cups powdered sugar
1 small carton cool whip
Cream together ingredients and spread over cooked, cooled crust.
Third Layer:
2 small packages chocolate instant pudding
3 cups milk
Mix well and spread on top of cream cheese layer.
Fourth Layer:
1 small carton cool whip
extra nuts
Spread cool whip over pudding layer, and sprinkle with nuts to garnish
Wah-lah! The nice thing about the multi-step thing is that each step is easier then the last. I typically bake the crust and mix the cream cheese layer the night before so the crust can cool overnight, then add all the layers the next morning and its pretty painless. Plus, then I can eat it breakfast, lunch and dinner! (I wish I was joking.)
I hope you all love it as much as I do! Thanks again Alex, muah!
