Since I started doing DIYs I have discovered hand cream, candles, chapstick and most other things I use all day can be so easily made at home! I wanted to try my hand at handmade lotion and was so glad I did. This recipe is really simple and will help even the very driest skin.

Handmade lotion is so simple and especially awesome in the winter months! Plus, it's only 2 ingredients.

I typically blog over at Practical and Pretty but I’m so happy to be sharing this idea here with you today!

Handmade lotion is so simple and especially awesome in the winter months! Plus, it's only 2 ingredients.

What You Need for Your Handmaid Lotion

  • 1 Cup shae butter
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • Essential oils (I used wild orange and lemon)

Handmade lotion is so simple and especially awesome in the winter months! Plus, it's only 2 ingredients.

Start by whipping up your shea butter user a wisk attachment. You really can’t over mix this so turn it on your highest setting and let it whip for a minute or so!

Once you have it nice and fluffy, add in 1/4 cup of coconut oil and mix it in really well as well.

As it was whipping I put in 4-8 drops of essential oil. I first tried to put in some frankinsense but that wasn’t the best lotion scent. (It’s more of a room mist scent!) I opted for a more citrus scent with lemon and wild orange.

I used a spatula to put it into a small mason jar I found at the dollar spot, and I was done! How easy would this be to whip up for neighbor gifts for Christmas?! I think I’ll be doing this along with some other home made things such as hand soap and bath salts for gifts.

Be sure to check out this recipe for bath salts, these DIY chapsticks, and this sugar scrub that is my all time favorite.
