Treat dad this Father’s Day with the Ultimate Root Beer Float.
I love summer holidays! The warmer weather and longer days gives us more time to celebrate. One of my favorite summer holidays (other than my baby’s birthday) is Father’s Day. Dads have a really hard job and it wasn’t until I had my boys and saw how much he does that I really appreciated the holiday (and my dad).
I think one of the best ways to show you love and appreciate someone is by listening to the things they like and enjoy and doing those things. Every time we pass a Hires Big H my husband always tells me about how much he loved going there as a kid and getting root beer floats. Knowing that Father’s Day falls on the first day of summer this year, a cool treat would be the perfect way to end a day of celebrating the man I love. I didn’t want to make just any root beer float; I wanted to make one like the ones he grew up loving…but even better. So I picked up a few of his favorite ice cream toppings and whipped up The Ultimate Root Beer Float.
The key to this float is the extra root beer extract added to the ice cream; the malt flavor gives it just the extra something the float needs and then the chocolate, caramel and whipped cream are just the icing on the cake (or float). If you want to make dad feel extra special this Father’s Day (and keep cool at the same time) make a batch of these floats!
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 1 cup root beer
- 1 tsp root beer extract
- whipped cream
- chocolate syrup
- caramel syrup
- maraschino cherry
- Scoop ice cream into a cup.
- Mix root beer extract with ice cream.
- Pour root beer over ice cream.
- Top with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, caramel syrup and maraschino cherry.
