These Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Cookies are as timeless as they are delicious. One batch makes over 50 cookies, so plan on sharing with neighbors and them all asking you for this recipe.
When my family was in town the other weekend we had a whole bunch of people who "didn't like peanut butter cookies" devour 56 of these in a few short hours.

Our peanut butter cookie recipe has been passed down for generations and is tried and tested. I use a Bosch mixer when I make it just because it's easy, but they can absolutely be mixed by hand if you prefer.
Best Peanut Butter Cookies Recipe
This recipe is made using simple, clean, everyday ingredients and the combination is magic. Read on for detailed tips and instructions, or scroll further for a video tutorial.
Ingredients:
- Butter
- Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Eggs
- Vanilla Extract
- Peanut Butter
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- Flour
Top Left - Get out a large mixing bowl. (Yep, you only need ONE mixing bowl to make these.) Cream together the butter and sugars.
Top Right - Add eggs and vanilla until combined.
Bottom Left - Add peanut butter, baking soda and salt. Next, add flour until just combined.
Bottom Right - Scoop into small balls onto a cookie sheet, and use a fork to make indentations. Bake at 350 degrees F for 7-10 minutes.
Pro Tips:
Before we dive into the goodness of the recipe, here are some handy tips to ensure your cookies turn out perfect every single time:
- Quality Matters: Always use high-quality, fresh peanut butter. This ensures a rich and authentic peanut flavor.
- Room Temperature Ingredients: Make sure your butter and eggs are at room temperature. This helps the ingredients combine better, resulting in a smoother dough.
- Chill the Dough: If time allows, and you prefer a chewier texture, chill the dough for at least an hour before baking. This helps the flavors meld, but is just a bonus, they are still great without this step.
- For a Crunchy Edge and Soft Center: Make sure to slightly press the cookies with a fork before baking. This not only gives them that classic peanut butter cookie look but also aids in even baking.
- Store Properly: Peanut butter cookies can go stale quickly. Keep them in an airtight container to ensure they remain fresh for days.
- Customize: Feel free to add in chocolate chips or chopped nuts for a fun twist on this classic treat. We like to add chocolate chips into a small part of our batter, see what that looks like in the image below.
