Homemade Granola Bars

If you are looking for a healthy granola bar recipe this one is not for you (everything in moderation, right?) these are really more of a treat! That being said, they are free of any preservatives and are made with real ingredients, so I still feel better about my kids eating these than the store bough variety! Plus, they taste way better.

How do you make homemade granola bars?

The best part about these granola bars is how easy they are! My older kids can make them themselves with a little supervision. Here's what you do.

(Picture 1) Add butter, honey, and brown sugar to a saucepan on medium high heat.

(Picture 2) Mix until boiling, stirring continuously. Once mixture is boiling turn down the heat to medium low and stir for about two minutes until all your sugar dissolves.

(Picture 3) Add in your oats, granola, and rice cereal and stir to combine.

(Picture 4) Press mixture into an un-greased 9x9 inch pan. Sprinkle your toppings over the granola bars and press down firmly. Cool in the fridge for 20 minutes, cut and enjoy!

Pro Tips:

  • If you want to make in a 9x13 pan double the recipe. If you want to make in a jelly roll pan triple the recipe. The great part about adding toppings at the end is that if you have multiplied the recipe it is easy to make more than one variety at once.
  • Some of our favorite topping ideas are chocolate chips, dried cranberries and white chocolate chips (pictured above), chia seeds, any kind of nuts, coconut etc. If adding nuts or chia seeds you can add those in on the stove top or press them in after.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container. If storing in the fridge give the granola bars a few minutes to soften before eating.
