Tie Dye Cookies
Ingredients
- one batch of sugar cookie dough
- food coloring in at least 3 different colors, I use this neon food coloring
Directions
- Prepare one batch of sugar cookie dough and allow it to chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour. While it chills, gather ingredients needed for the "tie-dye" process.
- Separate dough into 4 bowls.
- Add 8-10 drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix until the color is well blended.
- Clean the countertop thoroughly, then dust it with a thin layer of flour. Take a nickel-sized amount of each dough and roll it into one ball.
- Roll dough between your hands to make a snake-shaped long piece of dough.
-
- Lay it on the counter and roll it into a spiral.
- Place onto a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray or lined with parchment paper.
- Bake at 375 degrees F. 8-10 minutes until done.
- Cool for 2 minutes on the pan before removing cookies to a rack to cool.
Optional: I can't eat sugar cookies without frosting. If you like your cookies with frosting too, make this simple cream cheese frosting to slather on top of the cookies.
Pro Tips
- Don't want to make sugar cookie dough from scratch? I have used a Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie mix to cut down the time, and it works great. Do what makes you happy.
- Be sure to chill the cookie dough in the fridge for about an hour after mixing it up. If the dough gets too sticky to work with while making the swirly tie-dye cookies, just pop the dough back in the fridge to firm up again.
- Make sure to clean your countertop thoroughly and dust it with a thin layer of flour before you start rolling the cookie dough into designs. Cookie dough can be sticky. Add more flour to the countertop as needed while you work.
