Have you ever wanted a reading nook? We love our new under stairs nook so much.

People frequently ask me if this reading nook ever gets used, and it always makes me smile because the answer is a resounding YES.

If the kids are home it's a pretty safe bet that someone is in the reading nook... sometimes two or three of them!

From reading, to doing homework, to working, it's a comfy spot to sit while still being surrounded by all of the action.

Bed Under Stairs

People also frequently ask if this is a bed, and the answer is yes. Our nook is sized to fit a Twin XL mattress. I wanted it to be a standard mattress size so that we didn't have to special make a cushion which can be really expensive and hard to cover.

Back to our cute little reading nook, let's get to some frequently asked questions shall we?!

How did you create this space? When designing our home our architect asked if we wanted a closet under the stairs or an open presentation. When looking into that further we realized we could do a reading nook (aka: bed under stairs) in that space. We were immediately sold. Our cabinet guy built the drawers and the shelf in the back.
What is in the drawers? The drawers store blankets, computers/other electronics and some of our favorite board games. It has been nice to still have some functional storage here.
Where are all the decor items from? The bedding is Beddy's as detailed above. The blanket is from Saranoni, the reading light is from Amazon. The pillows, flowers, bookends and small green art are all from Home Goods. The large art was custom made for me by a friend.
How often is the space utilized? To be completely honest this space is used WAY more than I ever thought it would be. I knew it would be a fun kind of novelty space, but I totally underestimated how often it would actually be in use. I would 1000% put one in if we ever build again.
