Everyone loves this sticky, salty, sweet Chex mix recipe that is absolutely delicious! Your friends and family will be fighting over the bowl!

You know those snacks that once you take a bite of them, you literally can't stop shoving more of it into your face? I'm sorry not sorry, but this Sweet Chex Mix is that. It's one of the most deliciously addictive treats you'll ever taste. You should also try our more savory Homemade Chex Mix , Chex Scotcheroos, or these amazing Golden Grahams S'mores Bars. You can check out all of our desserts here!

    Chex Mix Sweet Snack

My friend's mom used to always make this treat for us if we had a movie night or a sleepover. In their house it was called GORP, and, wow, did we love it. We could take down an entire bowl of this in an hour! I have also heard this sweet Chex mix called Gooey Chex Mix, or "Christmas Crack" - I really don't like that name though.

    Why is it called GORP?

After doing some research, I learned that GORP is actually an acronym for 'Good Old Raisins and Peanuts' and is a nickname for trail mix. I call this sweet snack GORP, but I have come to realize that most people have a different name for it.

Call it what you want, this will always be GORP to me. It's sweet, sticky, gooey, really easy to make, takes only 5 minutes and you can totally make it your own with add-ins of your choice!

How to make Sweet Chex Mix:

Chex cereal and small bowls of coconut, cashews, almonds and sugar.

Ingredients for Sweet and Salty Chex Mix:

    • Chex cereal
    • Cashews
    • Slivered Almonds
    • Shredded Coconut
    • Butter
    • Sugar
    • Light Corn Syrup

    Other mix-in ideas:

    • Golden Grahams cereal
    • M&Ms
    • Pretzel Sticks
    • Peanuts

How to make this Sweet and Salty Chex Mix Recipe

Pour Chex cereal, slivered almonds, cashews, and shredded coconut into a large mixing bowl.

Sweet Chex mix dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Chex, Crispix and Golden Grahams cereals mixed with coconut flakes, sliced almonds and cashews.

Next, you'll make the caramel mixture that makes this Sweet Chex Mix SO GOOD!

Caramel step by step recipe photos for Sweet chex mix.
    1. Melt butter over medium heat.
    2. Add sugar and light corn syrup. Stir until dissolved.
    3.  Bring to a boil and stir often.
    4. Pour caramel mixture over the Chex mix and stir until combined.

Lay wax paper onto a cookie sheet and pour the sticky sweet chex mix out of the bowl onto the wax paper. Spread the mixture out into a single layer and let it cool completely.

Once the Sweet Chex mix is fully cooled, you can dig in! I like to keep it in a large bowl that has a lid.

How to serve this Sweet Chex Mix Recipe

Because it is sticky, this Chex mix is best served from a bowl, a plastic ziplock bag, or in individual little bowls.

    How to store

Store sweet Chex mix in an airtight container or ziplock bag in a cool, dry place.

Chex Mix Sweet and Salty FAQs

Is it cheaper to buy chex mix or make your own?

This type of gooey sweet chex mix is made with corn syrup and is not available in stores!

For Chex mix recipes, making your own can be more cost-effective if you're making a large batch or want to customize it with different ingredients than the store-bought kind.

Is Chex mix healthy or unhealthy?

This sweet and gooey Chex mix is NOT healthy, it’s a dessert!
Deciding whether something is healthy or unhealthy for you depends on your specific dietary needs.

How long does homemade Chex mix stay fresh?

This Sweet Chex mix will stay fresh for up to 7 days if it is stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

Typical Chex mix will stay fresh for 2 or 3 weeks if it is stored properly in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

    Notes

You can use any combination of cereal for this Chex mix, just make sure to use 12 oz. of cereal total. I like to use Chex, Crispix, and Golden Grahams cereal when I can find all three.
Since it's a Chex mix, feel free to make it your own. Omit things you don't like and add things you do like. You can't mess it up!

OMGOODNESS! My son and grandkids loved this! Note to self … a 1-1/2 qt. pot is not big enough!! for the syrup!! lol! I had a bit of a boil over! And our nuts were unsalted so I used a bit of salt to bring out the flavor. Will be making this again !! Many thanks for the recipe!! Happy New Year!!

Sounds good. Doesn't have how much for the dry ingredients. It also doesn't say to add rhe Karo syrup
